Dear Members,

 

The Robert S. Abbott Race Unity Institute enthusiastically invites you to participate in a two-day intensive Dialogue: Racism program November 9-10, 2019. This program is offered free of charge.

 

Dialogue: Racism was developed to promote the safe sharing of thoughts, feelings, experiences, and perspectives among a diverse group of people in order to bring participants to meaningful and effective experiences in healing racism.

 

The program will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the weekend of November 9-10, 2019, and will be followed by additional opportunities to continue the dialogue and magnify its impact throughout Glynn County.  We are still in the process of selecting a location.

 

We can include up to fifty participants in this first Dialogue: Racism program; we are inviting our members first. Please RSVP by August 29th if you intend to participate, as our limited spots for the event may fill quickly.

 

The Abbott Institute has partnered with the Houston based Center for the Healing of Racism (center) to provide this important program. The Center has conducted workshops in forty states and two countries and receives consistent positive feedback from participants, who most commonly describe the experience as transformational and life changing.

 

Teams of facilitators from the Center will create a safe, respectful environment where participants can explore the issues of racism and its repercussions. The facilitators provide information on such topics as defining prejudice and racism, where racism originates and how it is perpetuated, the forms of racism, and positive means for overcoming racism and healing its wounds. Participants are encouraged to dialogue within guidelines that promote real listening and understanding.
